Monday Blues :: Campus Casual

J.Crew Jacket | Chambray Top via TJ Maxx - similar here | Free People Jeans | Keds Sneakers | 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Bag | Cole Haan Sunnies - similar here | Michael Kors Watch | Gorjana Necklace c/o

Hey everyone! Happy Monday :) I don't know about you but every Monday I wake up with a severe case of Monday blues...I'm not sure if it's the disappointment that the weekend is over or if it's looking at the long stretch of another week in classes before it's finally Friday again. Being a college student, especially at the university I attend, it's pretty weird to go to school all dressed up and looking fab. The typical uniform among my peers are jeans and a hoodie, or even leggings and an oversized sweater (and if it's the winter, oh yes you guessed it - the entire university is plagued with a severe case of Uggs syndrome). I wouldn't say my campus is overflowing with the fashionably conscious type, to say the least, though there are some people who do put in the effort to attend their classes for the day (so as not to presumptuously include everyone into the same "college student" stereotype).

This is pretty typical of what I'd wear to class on the regular, and I classify it as my "casually preppy" go-to look for school. White jeans are an essential piece in my closet and with chambray, it's a favorite pairing of mine. I'm not sure who made up the rule of no more white after Labor Day, because I sure do not plan on following that. What are your favorite looks for a full day of classes? And for those of you who work, what's your go-to weekend wear? Let me know in the comments below :) Thanks for reading!!

XOXO,
E ♥

Classic Mix :: Black & White On Repeat

Cardigan via TJMaxx - love this | Ann Taylor Top - similar here (cream) | J.Crew Necklace | BLANKNYC Jeans | 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Bag - similar here | Tory Burch Flats | House of Harlow Sunnies | Michael Kors Watch

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share with you one of my favorite pairings that I always default to as my go-to color palette when I'm having one of those, "I have nothing to wear" days. More often than not, those days always seem to occur when I'm crunched for time and I really need an outfit, like stat, yet my mind seems to decide it's the perfect time for a fashion brain fart. The occasion was a business meeting for a client research project I'm currently working on, and the dress was casual, but dressy....let's be real - what does that even mean?? Personally, I'm completely against the classic office wear, business casual of either a pencil skirt and slacks with some sort of blouse in very typical styles and colors, especially because I'm a firm believer that any dress code can be appropriately followed in a fashionable manner.

My rules are to stay classic and conservative in style, but I always go with some more interesting textures, colors, and a little bit of sparkle. I've been itching to wear this top because I love the beautiful floral applique. I paired it with one of my favorite cardigans that easily dresses up any outfit and kept everything else neutrally black - a no-brainer, always chic option. I wanted to add a little sparkle, but didn't want to go too crazy with bright colors so I thought the clear crystals would be the perfect touch. What are some of your rules to stay fashion for "casual, but dressy" office wear?? Let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading :)

Autumn Equinox :: Cobalt Silk & Coated Jeans

Urban Outfitters Jacket - similar | Alice + Olivia Silk Camisole | AĆ©ropostale Coated Jeans (c/o) - or try these | Joie Heels | 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Bag - similar here and here | Cole Haan Sunnies - similar | Michael Kors Watch | Gorjana Necklaces (c/o) - here and here

Hey everyone! It is finally the official start of fall (yay, happy dance!) and as you can tell I am super excited! Even though the weather doesn't get super chilly during the day, I'm already in the mindset of fall textures and a darker color palette for my wardrobe. I've been really into leather details lately, and I'm super craving a pair of paneled leather pants like this or this. I also really like the whole faux leather pants trend, but am not personally a huge fan of wearing faux leather pants because they're not super comfortable and also very unbreathable. Thus, in comes the coated jean option! From an outside perspective, they give off the same effect of a leather pant, except they're much easier to wash/take care of and probably don't wear down as easily. Plus, these ones from AĆ©ropostale were only $16! I was so excited to pick these up and already have a handful of outfit ideas planned out for these babies :)

I chose an easy color combo with the cobalt blue accent, but chose a boxy tweed jacket with some cool faux leather trim for the added moto detail. And of course you can't forget the newest addition to my purse family - my 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target carryall! And yes, if you follow me on Instagram I also snagged a baby Phillip to keep this one company :) He'll be making his blog debut very soon! Lol, and as always thanks for reading!!

The Golden Lining

H&M Blazer - similar here (save) and here (splurge) | Urban Outfitters Tank | Joe's Jeans Trousers - similar | Joie Heels (c/o) | Forever 21 Bowler Bag - similar | Gorjana Necklaces (c/o): DamselxGorjana, Knox Necklace | Michael Kors Watch | Bracelets: Gorjana Initial Cuff (c/o), Pandora, Forever 21 Bangles | Rings: Kate Spade, Ariella Collecion (similar), Stella&Dot, Target, Gorjana (c/o)

Hey everyone! It's officially fall mode here on Refined Couture and I couldn't be more excited. Fall is my favorite season for countless reason - the refreshing crisp in the air, the nippy weather, pumpkin flavored beverages, apple picking season, beautiful foliage, and of course...layers!! Granted this outfit doesn't have much layering in it, but I went with some darker muted tones with some golden details to greet this perfect, early fall weather. More often than not, I usually choose one piece from my wardrobe that I really want to wear and center an outfit around it. Today's pick was my new Joie Jaclyn heels which I received from the rewardStyle party I talked about on Monday. Before I get into the outfit, I want to mention how comfortable these shoes are. For a sandal heel in this style, these shoes are ridiculously comfortable, due largely in part to the fact that the entire shoe is leather (really really soft leather, might I add) and the sole along with the front leather strap are both padded, which means nothing is cutting into your foot. So even though there's no platform, I wore these shoes for an entire day (10AM-5PM) with absolutely no pain! Shoe win :)

For the rest of the look, I went with a boyfriend style trouser with an olive green undertone. To keep it simple, I went with a double tiered black tank and dressed it up with a nicely cut black blazer. There was no need for any show-stealing jewelry because I wanted a very minimalistic look, so I layered two of my favorite dainty necklaces from Gorjana. I really couldn't pass up on the hanger pendant...perfect fashionista accessory and part of the DamselxGorjana line by Damsel in Dior! The rest of the story is pretty typical - layer on the bracelets and stack on the rings. I make sure to throw a pretty bangin' arm and hand party on the regular because in this case, the more really is merrier!! Thanks for reading :)

NYFW :: Black & White in Tulle

A little look at the rooftop scene from the rewardStyle party with Christine from Petite Hues!

What I Wore: Nanette Lepore Top - last seen here | Gap Kids Dress - similar | J.Crew Necklace | J.Crew Ankle-Cuff Pumps - sold out, except for a size 10! Newer style here | Vince Camuto Bag - last seen here, similar here, here, and here

Hey everyone! Hope you had a good weekend! Today's post is a bit long overdue, but two weekends ago, I had the pleasure of attending rewardStyle's blogger party for New York Fashion Week on the rooftop lounge of The Empire Hotel aka major Gossip Girl/Chuck Bass & Blair Waldorf flashbacks...! It was an amazing experience and my first taste of what NYFW is like. If you follow me on Instagram, you would've seen a preview of my outfit already. I stuck with a very classic color palette - black & white, but played around with lots of different textures. I love this polka dotted tulle dress from Gap Kids, which I turned into a skirt by layering a knit cropped sweater tee over it. Ever since I saw Wendy featuring a tulle dress on Wendy's Lookbook, I was in love...the whole idea of it feels very romantic and fairytale-esque! With the two pieces, I used a satin ribbon to cinch the waist and added a pop of color (and a little more texture) with my deep burgundy calf-hair bag from Vince Camuto.

Lastly, I must mention how excited I was to have met Wendy from Wendy's Lookbook! She is one of my favorite bloggers, a huge inspiration, and so incredibly humble. Plus, we match! Haha,
anyways, I think that's enough fan-girling for one post. Check back Wednesday for a new look! Thanks for reading :)

Clean Lines :: Simple Stripes + Colorburst

Ann Taylor Blouse | Kate Spade Skirt - similar | J.Crew Factory Necklace | Kelly & Katie Pumps - similar | Cole Haan Sunnies - similar | Michael Kors Watch | Rimmel by Kate in Shade 01 (lips)

Hey everyone! Hope you're having a fabulous week :) Today's post is another one of those simple looks that would be perfect for work, church, or any other occasion where you would need to be just a little bit dressed up. I bought this Kate Spade skirt awhile ago, meaning back when it was still unseasonably cold and I got a great deal, and finally wore it out for the first time this week. Why did I wait so long? I have no idea. I love the minimal pleated detail on the front, and really didn't want to overpower the skirt with anything other than a white blouse to keep it extremely clean and simple. For reference, the blouse I linked is the same one I'm wearing, however I rolled up the sleeves more to my liking. I couldn't leave the house without a little bit of sparkle though, so I added a punch of color with my statement necklace along with a splash of red on my lips.
For you girls who are about that makeup junkie life and have yet to try out Rimmel's line by Kate Moss, I highly recommend! The formulation on this lipstick is amazing, and for $5 it's a complete steal. It's not drying at all, which is so important for a red lipstick, and the scent reminds me of the LipSmackers lip balms I used to use as a little kid :)

Garden Party :: Top Knots & Summer Shifts

Club Monaco Dress | Stella McCartney Pembridge Crossbody - clutch version | Rachel by Rachel Roy Heels | Michael Kors Watch | Cole Haan Cat-Eye Sunnies - similar price, similar look

Hey everyone! Today's post is (probably) going to be my final summer "hoorah" in this Club Monaco dress I picked up over Labor Day weekend. I was surprised it ended up on the sale rack since it's such a beautifully made dress, but if you're familiar with the idea of "hanger appeal" - this dress doesn't have much of it. I was pretty skeptical when I first took it into the dressing room but immediately fell in love the second I tried it on. It makes me wish I had a garden party to attend on a New York City rooftop - pinkies up! Luckily, my Stella McCartney bag was the perfect pink to match the print on this dress (don't you love when that happens?? Best. Feeling. Ever.). Ever since I got my ankle-cuff pumps from J.Crew, this pair of heels haven't been getting much love, but I figured they were the perfect ankle topper for this dress!

And just a little tip - with a dress like this that has such a high necklace plus a detailed collar, I find it best to put your hair up in an up-do so your dress really gets the maximum glory it deserves, lol. And my lazy way out? The infamous sock bun :)

Summer Nights :: Black Lace & Leopard Accents

Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone's enjoying their long weekend (and doing lots of shopping to snag some awesome Labor Day weekend sales)!! I've already gone shopping twice (yes, we can all reiterate again my terrible shopping habits which will probably never change), and have found some amazing deals! Check out Zara (sale times from $9.90-$29.90) and Club Monaco (extra 50% off sale items) - made some great purchases there that I'm super excited for!

For today's post, I wanted to share this beautiful Free People dress I bought earlier this summer. For me, this isn't just any other lace dress because the lace on this dress is gorgeous and great quality, plus I love the hemline! The V-cut is pretty unique and I haven't seen this on another lace dress before. I kept the entire outfit very monotone, but mixed in a calf hair leopard print bow belt and a little sparkle on the neckline. Ironically, I mentioned in my last post how I don't like wearing black in the summer, but I needed to find a day to wear this dress before it got chillier and I'd have to cover up the lace detailing on the sleeves with a blazer or overcoat. How do you see this dress being styled for fall??

Let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading!! :)
