Winter Warms :: Camel & Burgundy

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a great week!

Anna from A Lily Love Affair // Jenny from Stuff I Love // Gaby from Soul of a Fashionista // Yumi from Petite in Style

I was extremely inspired by some of the looks I saw coming down the runway for fall/winter 2014 during this latest NYFW. Some of my favorites were the camel, burgundy and oversized silhouettes. I decided to take that inspiration and channel it into an outfit! Despite me saying last time that I have a hard time picking favorites, burgundy is definitely one of my favorite colors of all time. Since this week's theme is our favorite lipstick, I chose Glamourdaze by MAC, which is a gorgeous berry-burgundy that is "neutral" enough for everyday wear. Unfortunately, though, it happens to be a limited edition shade, which I wish it wasn't since it is literally the lipstick I reach for on a daily basis.

I've been on the hunt for one of these drape-y poncho-ish/cape sweaters (yes, some great English I'm displaying) in a camel color, so I was super excited to find this one during a recent shopping excursion. I love how this one has a deep V, and it simply drapes beautifully. Luckily, I recently also snatched up this embossed python leather tote from GiGi New York during their winter sale. Clearly I've been bad lately and doing a little too much shopping! I've been eyeing one of their embossed leather pieces in this burgundy color for many months now, so at 50% off I couldn't say no. It just so happened to pair perfectly with this sweater for my camel + burgundy pairing, and it is also nearly a true match to one of my most well-loved scarves.

I have to say, I was extremely impressed with the quality of this bag, particularly the inside! I've been a long-time owner of the Longchamp "Le Pliage" totes, and though I love mine to death, I do think they've become a bit pricey now that their quality has slightly declined. I've been contemplating purchasing a second large Longchamp tote in a darker color, but couldn't get myself to pay nearly $200 for something that wasn't leather and has essentially no form of organization inside. It's actually surprisingly difficult, however, to find a quality tote that also has a zipper. Enter the GiGi New York Jessica tote! It's 100% leather - yes even the inside is a beautiful leather, which really had me swooning. There's a zip pocket inside, along with two additional pockets for your phone and other floaters, and another pocket on the outside. I also love that it has metal feet on the bottom for a little extra protection. The only thing that has a me a little hesitant is how thin the straps are, which makes me question how much weight the tote can actually handle. If anyone has any insight into this, I'd appreciate the advice!

Prepster

Hi there! Hope you had a fantastic weekend!

I've been told that I have a very versatile sense of style. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not very good at focusing my style in one direction, or if I just have a great sense of appreciation for different kinds of style. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'd explore every style out there, and there are definitely looks I totally couldn't pull off. There are also lots of styles that I simply don't know how to style outfits for and that's because they really just aren't me. That being said, I have a hard time classifying what my style is, so for today's outfit, preppy is the name of the game.

I love to layer because 1) I think it's extremely challenging to do it well, and 2) It's really freakin' cold here on the east coast. Today's pairing is a double feature in layers, with layered necklaces (my favorite way of accessorizing) and a triple layer of chambray, cashmere, and a tailored blazer. Typically, I'd probably pull on my favorite pixie pants from J.Crew to top off this outfit, but I decided that those pants received too much love on this blog and my denim did not. To make the outfit a bit more exciting, I went with a patterned jean instead of a solid dark wash.

How do you classify your style? Or better yet, I'd love to know how you readers classify my style from a third person point of view :) Let me know in the commens!

Stripes + Floral

Hi everyone! Hope you're well :)

Anna via A Lily Love Affair // Jenny via Stuff I Love // Gaby via Soul of a Fashionista // Yumi via Petite in Style

I'm quite indecisive when it comes to picking favorites...favorite food, favorite color, favorite vacation spot, favorite designer, etc. Favorite sounds so limited and final, I just hate to choose. For our "On Wednesdays We Wear..." series, we have a lot of favorites coming up, so I've found myself in quite the pickle trying to decide which pieces to feature as my favorite. This week's topic is our favorite print. Clearly, my indecisiveness won this battle because I ended up choosing two prints (well, one is more of a pattern) in order to share one of my favorite combinations: stripes and floral!

Many of you must be thinking, girl you cray. The world around you is covered in snow and you're wearing a mini skirt. But maybe this is just my desperate plea with Mother Nature for spring to kindly arrive sometime soon, like I don't know, possibly tomorrow? All jokes aside, I really did want to share with you how a typically spring pairing could be more winter appropriate (but you should probably add some tights or something). I've been searching for a striped a-line mini skirt for a couple seasons now, so I was so happy to find this one from Aéropostale's Bethany Mota collection for a reasonable price and also decent quality! It's a heavier material with structured pleats which was just what I was looking for.

Animal Instincts

Hi everyone! Happy Monday :)

Today I wanted to share an outfit I wore out to lunch with my good friend Joy, photographer behind Joy Sun Photography, who kindly offered to shoot these photos for me! You've probably heard it tons and tons of times before, but for many of us leopard is essentially a neutral in our wardrobes. However, instead of leopard being the neutral in this pairing, I wanted to use a neutral base of black in order for the leopard print to be the main focus. As I've mentioned in the past, I always like to mix textures when it comes to an all black outfit because in my opinion, that's truly what makes an all black ensemble chic. I mixed shag with a coated, leather-like jean along with my perforated faux leather bag. Paired with the faux fur leopard print vest, it adds more dimension and interest to the look.

And of course, an all black outfit is never complete without some gold (or silver) accents!

How do you style leopard as a focal piece in your outfit pairings? I'd love to know in the comments below!

Love Bug :: Rendezvous in Blush and Fur

Hi everyone! Hope you're all staying warm in this chilly winter weather!

Anna from A Lily Love Affair // Jenny from Stuff I Love // Gaby from Soul of a Fashionista // Yumi from Petite in Style

Today's collaboration theme was one of my picking for a couple reasons: 1) I love Mean Girls, so as a tribute I of course had to take advantage of the "On Wednesday's We Wear Pink" reference, and 2) As Valentine's Day approaches, it was the perfect time for all of us to share our own take of a festive, romantic, mushy gushy, pink outfit. Yes, like most girls, I am a sucker for Valentine's Day and secretly I'd like to be showered with cliché roses and chocolate dipped strawberries while being decked out in a pink outfit. Is that too much to ask for? Dear future husband, please start taking notes. This is the most indirect yet the most un-subtle hint you'll ever get.

These Ann Taylor fur trim booties (that can be worn folded up or down!) remind me a lot of the lace up Manolo Blahnik booties that were recently just featured in their fall/winter 2014 collection at NYFW. They're also similar to this older pair.

Tailored Blazer & Watercolor Floral

Hi there! Happy Monday once again!

In the spirit of Valentine's Day coming up on Friday, I wanted to share a couple looks this week that would be perfect for a date night or a day date! I feel like this outfit could swing either way, and though it is a little bit darker with the black blazer and black top, it still feels a little bit romantic and flirty paired with the flouncy a-line skirt in a pastel, watercolor floral that does have a light wash of pink.

When mixing blacks, I like to keep things interesting with different textures. This top is one of my favorite black tops because of the floral applique details. Married with the floral skirt, it adds a touch of femininity and an element of surprise as you mix the two different kinds of florals. Adding gold jewelry definitely helps to warm up the outfit, while also accenting the gold chain details on the handbag.
