Uniform

Hey there! Hope you're having a great week!

Military green is one of my favorite closet staples because of its versatility. If you think about it, it is essentially a functional color from fall through summer and it comes in all variations, whether it be an anorak down jacket, a lightly lined anorak jacket for spring and fall, chinos, camo print, workwear shirts, or this military inspired vest. It's a uniform inspired color that's used for many uniform inspired styles, and likewise this piece will also become a staple item for my summer uniform.

These jeans are my new denim loves. It was my first time trying on a pair of super cropped skinny jeans, and to my surprise I really loved them! These are also a super high-waisted jean with a five-button closure - not something I own but definitely interested in other ways this can be styled. Throwing it back a little to the '90s with the all button closure, but really liking the wash of this pant!

White Out

Hey all! Happy Memorial Day!!

Today I'm doing a fun collaboration with Samantha from Starring Samantha, one of my blogger gal pals :) We decided to go with an all white theme, which is actually a challenge I've never tackled before. I've always liked the clean, sophisticated look of an all white outfit, but similar to an all black outfit, it's a little bit tricky to do just right.

Check out Samantha at Starring Samantha for her full outfit details!

I ended up choosing a full white midi skirt, which is actually a dress, and pulled a cropped crochet top over it. Remember the first time I wore this top and I said I would be getting tons of wear out of it? Point proven. I liked the combinations of cropped + long, along with the crochet + heavier cotton pairing. I balanced it all out with a muted, hammered gold throughout and added a pop of turquoise which is one of my favorite complements with gold. In the spirit of Memorial Day weekend and my plans to spend a couple days down the shore, I was really feeling the resort-wear vibes. I almost wish I had a floppy straw hat to top it all off! Next thing on my to-buy list ;)

What pieces would you pair for an all-white outfit? I'd love to know!!

Repurposed

Hey there! Hope you're having a great week!

This week has been very eventful and a bit hectic, so I apologize for the delay of this post. Due to my busy schedule, I wasn't able to get my outfits done ahead of time, so I snapped these yesterday after my sister's graduation. Since it is graduation season, I thought it'd be appropriate to share what I wore to my own graduation (see last post here), and what I wore to someone else's graduation!

Like I mentioned in my last post, I love florals and light colors for graduation. I prefer the dress route simply because it's just easier, but a maxi skirt (or dress) are great options as well! This dress is actually a skirt that I repurposed into a dress. As a skirt, it's a bit big on me, so it doesn't sit high enough on my waist. Since it is a midi skirt, it falls perfect when pulled higher and worn as a strapless dress. This skirt worked perfectly because there's a good 7-8 inches of fabric before the pleats start, so it begins to flare out right at my natural waist. And since it was made as a skirt, it creates a very subtle high-low effect when worn as a dress. I really loved the fun pink and orange floral print, and it really brightened up the otherwise gloomy day yesterday.

Congratulations to my sister for completing her schooling! Yes, we did graduate the same year but no we are not the same age. She did a six year program to obtain her doctorate degree in pharmacy and graduated with the highest honors! Very, very proud of her :) She doesn't like to brag, but that doesn't stop me from bragging for her! Love you sissy ♡

The Graduate

Hey all! Happy amazing Monday to all of you!

Today's post is a little different but very special to me since it's a commemorative post of my recent graduation from college. I wanted to share this post with you all for a number of reasons: 1) This blog is a big part of my life, and all of my readers are very important to me. My journey as a blogger wouldn't be possible if you guys weren't here to follow along with me, so I wanted to share this milestone with all of you as my friends here on blogger land! 2) This blog has really helped me find myself and my identity throughout college. I started this blog during the late spring of my sophomore year, and it's been with me ever since! I've seen myself grow and change as an individual, and it's also amazing to see how my style has evolved with me. 3) Refined Couture has been a huge part of my professional identity, and it's actually one of the things I talk most passionately about when seeking new career endeavors. I truly believe it is what helped me land the internship I had last summer, which transitioned into a full-time position that I'll be starting in a couple of months. I highly encourage all of you to take time to do what you're passionate about, even though it may not exactly be your field of study - you never know where it may lead you! 4) I wanted to take this time to thank all of you for being the wonderful you's that you are :) So thank you to all my readers, I'm so happy I could share this day with all of you, and a huge congratulations to all the other graduates of the Class of 2014!!! Cheers to a great future :)

Being very, very cheesy. But hey, graduation is a time to celebrate you and your accomplishments, so just be yourself! And don't forget to thank Mom and Dad for everything that they've done for you :)

And a final style tip! For graduation, I love a light summer dress, in either a pastel, white, or floral. Choose a nice, breathable fabric like 100% silk or cotton because your actual graduation gown is already unbearably hot on its own. I like to style my hair in curls because it gives more volume around your face since the cap itself is pretty fitted, and it also holds up much better in the heat, humidity, and wind as long as you use the right styling products! For makeup, choose a foundation that's long-wearing and matches your skin perfectly. It's okay to go just a tad heavier than your everyday makeup since you'll be taking a lot of pictures and you want your skin to look flawless in photos. I also recommend a good eye primer so if you choose to wear eyeshadow it doesn't crease in the heat! Good luck, and congratulations!!

Cheers,
E ♥

Seventh Heaven

Hey everyone! Hope you're having a great week so far!

Seventh Heaven was one of my favorite television shows when I was younger, but it wasn't until recently that I found out seventh heaven actually means happiness! Happiness is a very appropriate title to this look because today marks a very special day! Yesterday was my last day as an undergraduate student. I finished up my very last final exam last night and I'll be graduating this coming Saturday. It's crazy how time flies. College is definitely the fastest and best four years of your life, so savor it while you can :)

I don't usually wear a lot of strapless tops or pieces that expose a lot of my upper back because I'm pretty self-conscious about my skin. However, this polka dot peplum top was too cute to pass by! There's a bit of structure and the most darling little bow detail where the top cinches at the waist. I love it paired with a clean white denim to keep it classic and feminine.

For some color, I layered a couple statement pieces with a pop of neon. I also love combining the neon necklace with my fuchsia clutch and a bright pink lip. It's one of my favorite ways of brightening up an outfit and adding a spring/summer touch.

Don't these flats remind you of Dorothy's ruby red flats from The Wizard of Oz? The modern Cinderella version :) There's no place like home!

Safari Chic

Hey there! Happy Monday :)

It was a beautiful weekend here, and I was so excited to finally be able to bring out my shorts! It was even warm enough to the point where I was starting to complain about the heat while taking these photos, though just a couple months back we would've traded anything for this weather!

I actually find it more challenging to style looks for spring and summer because there's so many less layers to work with. With light layers, it's more about mixing pieces to create a standout outfit or playing with textures and patterns. I've been wanting to style this top for awhile now, which was actually a piece from my aunt's closet so I classify it as "vintage". I feel like this top could easily go from shabby chic to just plain shabby and outdated, so I mixed it with a pair of slightly distressed army green cutoff shorts and lots of gold to add warmth and luxe. I love my wrap around sandals from Nicole Miller, and I've honestly had these for ages but shoe love never dies.

I totally feel like Jane from Tarzan in this outfit. But give me one second to throw on some more practical shoes before we go trekking through the jungle.
