Nostalgia

"Live the full life of the mind, exhilarated by new ideas, intoxicated by the romance of the unusual." {Ernest Hemingway}

Just like how scents and tastes can transport you back to a different time, to a memory stored in the depths of your mind, an article of clothing brings back waves of nostalgia to me as well. It might be the reason why I hang on to so many pieces of clothing, because when I pull it back out of my closet I immediately flash back to the last time I wore it -- a beautiful day in early summer attending my cousin's graduation on the manicured lawns of Princeton University, our last family reunion celebrating my grandmother's 90th birthday, a cold windy day spent exploring NYC and seeing the city from above at the top of the Empire State building. Likewise, for the pair of pants I'm wearing in this outfit, they bring back waves of memories from my days as an intern. Despite having not worn them in so long, I could never bring myself to part from them because of all the nostalgia attached to them. I constantly joke with my family members that I'm probably some level of hoarder, but I also believe that while I may be part hoarder, I'm also part sentimentalist and sometimes it's just too hard to let those memories go.
