Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower

I think I've found the perfect sweater jacket for the season. I don't typically buy clothes at full price because more often than not, everything somehow makes its way to the sale rack and then I secretly cry inside for jumping the gun and spending double what I could've spent. When you like to buy everything you have to learn how to shop smart so you can have what you want without going broke {something that I've artfully mastered}. However, this sweater was too much of a love that I couldn't pass it by, so I made the plunge and have zero buyer's remorse. I even went so far as to wear this sweater when it was 70 degrees out just because I had to {and FYI, it's 100% wool}. I really can't wait for the weather to hit the 50's so I can bundle up in this sweater jacket and sip on a cup of PSL {pumpkin spice latte, duh}. I like to call it my socially acceptable Snuggie...with much more beautiful draping.

Vested Interest

Cheers to the freakin' weekend {almost}.

It's been a crazy week for me and you can bet that I am glad it's almost over. It's interesting though. Now that I've been working for a little over 2 months, I've started to realize that my weekend style is much more dressy than my weekday style. I'm much more inclined to grab my heels and put on something more put together on Saturday or Sunday than I am on Monday through Friday. Why? I think it's the thought of commuting over an hour in said outfit and also working all day in said outfit. For some reason, it just makes my brain tired thinking about doing all that while being dressed up. It's almost {suffocating}. Anyone else?

I had lots of fun creating this look with this vest I received thanks to JYJZ, which is an online boutique of clothes curated by bloggers. They have a flash sale every Wednesday, where you can receive 30% off your purchase, or sign up to get 50% off your first purchase. Check them out here. When my mom first saw this vest she told me it was very different from my typical style and what I would usually gravitate towards. At first I was like, why? But after wearing it a couple times I kind of understand. It was definitely more difficult making this vest my own, but for some reason I've been wanting a vest just like this for quite some time and I still really love the overall loose, drapey fit of this entire look. One of my favorite challenges is taking a piece and styling it to fit my own aesthetic despite it not being wholly my style on its own. I'm interested to know, how would you style a vest like this?

Early Bird

Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.
-F. Scott Fitzgerald

I'm getting a head start on fall this year because hey, it's my favorite season so I must savor it while it lasts. Also, Starbucks totally launched its Pumpkin Spice Latte early this year, which means I have to launch my blanket-scarf-wearing early too {it only makes sense}. I literally wore this outfit the first day it got "cold" aka it was pretty chilly in the morning but by noon it was probably like 70 degrees, and by the time I left work this scarf definitely wasn't necessary but {who cares}. It's fall -- really, it's actually fall now -- and I would toss colorful leaves around if they currently existed.

One of my favorite trends for this fall/winter are the side slit sweaters with the slight high-low hem {also loving the style in button downs like this}. I snagged this one on sale from Madewell literally the second it went on markdown {run girls, don't walk}. They're just easy, effortless sweaters with a little surprise that leave just a bit more to be desired. And if you want, you could have a little more fun by layering something patterned underneath or, something that I want to do, layering something frilly or a peplum to create a new silhouette and add a touch of feminine flair. The latter would work wonderfully with a sweater with side zips like this

P.S. Zara is back this year with an updated version of this scarf, and you can bet I am stalking the website until it becomes available again because obviously owning both is necessary {total sarcasm}. Join in the fun and check it out here

Just Right

When a little black dress is right, there is nothing else to wear in its place.
- Edith Piaf

And to add to that, one little black dress is never enough. I think I have at least six {oops}. But for each occasion there's a new silhouette, and for each season comes a new trend. How can a girl help herself? I fell in love with this LBD because it's such an easy piece. It has a great {but subtle} black on black embroidery, a super simple shift silhouette, the tiniest sliver of skin showing at the neckline, and of course -- pockets. It's that perfect little black dress from summer that you can easily take to fall with your favorite jacket and ankle booties. Though I might be jumping the gun on this {it barely just started getting cold but if we're being honest, I was the crazy who wore my blanket scarf on Tuesday}, I thought this mauve-y quilted leather jacket with studded details was the perfect transitional layering piece to truly make this a fall outfit. To me, everything about this outfit is just right for fall.

P.S. A friendly PSA: Don't skip the socks when you're wearing cutout booties like the ones above. I did the first time and I let's just say my I successfully rubbed off a layer of skin on each of my big bueno. My solve? Try these socks from Target. A-mazing. I walked all day and they didn't slip off or cause any unwelcome chafing!

Shake It Off

"Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off...

...I'm dancing on my own {dancing on my own}
I make the moves up as I go {moves up as I go}
And that's what they don't know {mmm-mmm}
That's what they don't know {mmm-mmm}"

My latest feel good happy song. Totally grooving on my own. Happy fall everyone!!
