"We are shaped and fashioned by what we love."

(v.) To make into a particular or required form; to use materials to make into

A rather rhetorical thought, but eloquently stated. You are the people you surround yourself with, you are the air that you carry yourself with, you are the makings of the family you grew up in, you are the places you've traveled to and the cultures you've been immersed in; you are all the things that you love or used to love. As we grow, the way we are fashioned also grows and evolves. Just as our loves change, so do we. But even as your loves change, it doesn't overwrite or negate the loves of your past; your new loves simply add to the complexity of how you have been and will be shaped. And in that same stream of thought, surround yourself with true loves so as not to be fashioned into something or someone you are not. For it will forever become a piece of you, no matter big or small, it's been written into your history and will become part of your legacy.

"Because of you I can feel myself slowly but surely becoming the me I have always dreamed of being."

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is my favorite of all the holidays. I don't find that we take enough time out of our days to give thanks for everything we have -- for the places we've gone, the lessons we've learned, the friends we've gained, the friends we've lost, the everyday blessings we take for granted, the roof over our heads, the life that we've been given. As humans, it's part of our nature to constantly seek more. Our current state is never enough -- there's always upwards and onwards; more depth, more breadth. And it's true: life has so much to offer, so in the numbered breaths we have why not grasp on? But as I've always been everything give thanks. So today, I want to thank all of you. From those who I now count friends to those who simply support me by reading my rambling thoughts and double-tapping a little heart on Instagram, I am truly so grateful to each and every one of you. It is because of you guys that I can be who I am today and pursue this blog and my dreams despite where I came from or how I started. I hope from the bottom of my heart that each of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving spent in the company of those you care about most, and that in some way or another, you feel cherished for what you've added into their lives because you have forever changed mine.

"Go with the choice that feels like freedom."

Life is full of them, and some bigger than others. The older we get, the more weight each decision we make carries. It's not so easy to undo choices or change paths once a decision is made -- there are so many other factors than just me, myself, and I. In college the biggest decisions were what classes should I take? What professor do I want? What should I major in? But none of those decisions were all that binding -- schedules could be changed, classes could be dropped, majors could be swapped. Theoretically, life after college should be relatively similar right? Find a job, choose a city, start a career. But I've found in the last year and a half that it's not so simple. You might start somewhere because it offered you the chance to move to the city you dreamt of being in after college, or you might accept a job because it was at your dream company or industry. It's pretty simple-minded to think that a path change is easy because in college that's what it was. Nothing is ever set in stone, and that much still holds true. But in the professional world, experience is invaluable, time is money, and so many other factors weigh in on the decision making process. There are endless things to consider such as work life balance, benefits, whether switching jobs will result in a demotion after you had worked so hard for that promotion, salary, company culture, coworkers and friends, location, etc. The list is quite extensive and I'm not so sure a pro/con list will give you the answer you're looking for. So in the end what do you have? You have the choice that feels like freedom. The one that no doubt brings you great relief and peace. The choice that gives you a renewed sense of hope, the one that ignites your heart, the choice that feels like possibility.

Autumn Days

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

Dream a little dream.

I am definitely a dreamer. I often find myself caught in my own world, lost in my own thoughts, dreaming my own little dreams. It's easy to get lost in my dreams and forget the present; to let myself fall into the what if's and could be's of the future. I like to let my imagination run free while my feet still remain grounded on this earth. As we get older, I've found that a lot of people compromise or settle, they put off and wait, they forget to keep dreaming. But we should never lose the child in our hearts: the child that could narrate a picture book, the one that turned carpets into burning lava and couches into stepping stones, the one that built forts out of sheets and found treasures among the weeds. As a child, the world is truly your oyster. Our destinies were our own. Our futures had no bounds, no constraints. We could always dream another dream.

"Stars can't shine without darkness."

Stars go through many phases of life.

Though from Earth they may seem like just a glimmering speck in the vastness of the open sky, each star is actually so magnificent and different. Some stars burn brighter and are much more massive than others. If a star has enough mass, it burns up like a white dwarf. But instead of fading away, it goes into a state of degeneration and becomes something very rare called a neutron star. Despite the fact that stars are constantly undergoing changes in pressure and chemical makeup, they are always in perfect balance. Like stars, our lives are constantly changing, and, like stars we also go through many phases of life. But as we grow to shine through the darkness, we should remember our roots, remember where we came from, and stay grounded within ourselves.

Fall Blues

"Immerse yourself in a life that moves you, because what you surround yourself with is what becomes your life."

Be free.

I feel like I've been going through a lot of mental change in my life lately, and I continually joke with my friends that I'm having a pre-quarter life crisis {it's really not that severe}. I've always been a "look within yourself to find inspiration" kind of girl -- it's what makes me enjoy writing so much because I can think, reflect, and share. It's also another great thing about this blog, because it's my one true creative outlet where I can express all aspects of my creativity, both in personal style and in written word. Lately, I've been sharing a lot of posts about being true to yourself, being the best you, empowering messages to pursue what you want and find happiness, but it ain't no talk without the actual walk. Change is scary, contentment feels safe. Choose your battles wisely, but the ones that aren't fought now will have to be fought later in life.
