Worth

"You must find no worth in yourself if you think I am worth less."

Worth.

I feel like it's been so long since I blogged when in actuality it's really only been about a week and a half. Yet, in a week and a half it feels like the world that we once knew has been drastically altered. It's easy to block out what's happening in the world at a macro level when it comes to our daily lives because largely, we don't directly feel the impact at a micro level - at least not right away.  But when your phone screen lights up multiple times a day with breaking news headlines one after the other, it starts to become hard to ignore. I grew up in America - I was born here and raised here, and it's the only place I know as home. Like so many other people in this country, my family is a family of immigrants and I am the first generation of my family to be born here. It doesn't matter when your family immigrated here, whether it was 10 years ago, 20 years ago, or 200 years ago - we are all immigrants. We all fled to this country, whether it was to pursue a greater dream, to pursue peace, to pursue hope, to pursue stability, to pursue unity, or to pursue freedom we all came here so our worth could be recognized and this country welcomed us with open arms. To think that opportunity has now been taken away for some; to think that there are families that will not be able to be whole saddens me. We all have the same worth - who's right is it to say that one is worth less?
