Winter's Eve

Hi there! Hope you're all having a great week!

This week's On Wednesdays We Wear is all about the midi skirt. If you asked me five years ago if I'd be caught dead in this skirt, my response would be "Heck to the no, what am I, Amish??" But lately, these midi skirts, especially in a plaid/tartan print have been super in and lucky for me my mom had a couple lying around still from years back. Going back to my Amish comment, I do still think that these skirts are pretty tricky pieces to work with. A midi skirt is pretty temperamental because the length can come off a little "old" if not styled properly. With a plaid pattern on top of it, it's especially important not to appear matronly or too school teacher from the 60s. Thus, I immediately thought to myself - what better way to modernize the plaid midi than with some extravagant baubles??

If you're like me and you don't have one of those ostentatious statement necklaces from J.Crew or a similar store, one of my favorite ways to create my own extreme statement necklace is to layer a couple. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one of those huge crystal pieces from J.Crew, but if you're familiar, you'll know they're quite pricey and a little bit too much for me to shell out the money. One tip for layering necklaces is to choose necklace shapes that compliment each other as well as the neckline of your top. In this case, I paired a necklace that could be extended longer with a shorter necklace that has more of a v-shape to fit the v-neck of my sweater.
