"Once a year, go someplace you've never been before."
Charmed.
The quintessential term I would use to describe the exuberant city of New Orleans. New Orleans has been a city that has piqued my interest for some time now. I've had a number of friends visit the city in the last year or so and ever since then I've been dying to explore the colorful streets of the French Quarter, to see the charming buildings with wrought iron balconies and overflowing planters, and to experience the culture you can't find anywhere else in the U.S. We spent most of our days wandering the streets of the French Quarter and retiring to our hotel for quiet evenings {if you know me, you'll know I am really not the type to be wilding it out on Bourbon Street}. It was a relaxing getaway to simply explore with no real obligations or plans to be anywhere at any exact time, and I stumbled across some unexpected gems during my time there. This mini vacation came at a great time for me; it allowed me to take a breather from reality, to unwind and recharge, to live in the moment and simply be. Most of our lives, whether it be our daily lives or on vacations, we spend planning and doing, running from one destination to the next. It's rare to find time to just have a few days to yourself where you have nothing but time. I'll be sharing in next week's post my favorite spots to grab a bite and a couple more thoughts on the city itself. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy the smattering of photos I included below from some of the sights around the city!
